John and I retired from IBM 5 years ago and during our retirement party (after copious amounts of lager) we decided to do the 'Mongol Rally' organised by the Adventurists. We set off from Goodwood in July 2010, and 6 weeks & 9500 miles later we arrived in Ulaan Batar in our trusty Suzuki Vitara. The car was duly auctioned off for charity and, surprisingly, it raised more than we paid for it. Our charity that year was "The Christina Noble Foundation"
In 2012 we got itchy feet and decided to take on the 'Rickshaw Run', again organised by the Adventurists. This was a jaunt across northern India in a Tuk Tuk, which is a glorified lawnmower with a sofa at the back. Not satisfied with just driving across India we decided to go to Nepal. Well, we were close so why not! Anyway we took this Tuk Tuk through the Himalayas to Kathmandu. No mean feat for a 125cc machine that really struggled at high altitude with the endless climb. 12 days and 3500km later we arrived at Jaislmer in Rajasthan. At the start of this event John got Delhi Belly and at the end I got Rajasthan Runs! Our chaity this year was 'Frank Water' who provide clean water supplies to Indian villages
To help satisfy our nomadic hunger we have decided to have a go at the Nouakchott Challenge. Our initial plan is to get a double entry visa for Mauritania and go on to Dakar spend a few celebratory days there, and then return to Nouakchott to finish. Our home charity this year is 'Small Steps' who are based in Roehampton SW15, support mentally and physically challenged pre school children in the London and Surrey area. look here for more info at
