WELL WE ALL DID IT - MANY THANKS TO ALL THOSE FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES WHO SPONSORED US. NOT ONLY DID WE HIT OUR TARGET BUT WE EXCEEDED IT BY OVER £200!!!

Don't be put off by the title, the Great Student Run is for students past and present and yes, I was one once!  This is my first 'proper' run and I will be doing it in the company of my daughter Lucy and her boyfriend Joe (or at least I will be setting off at the same time as them!).  Lucy is studying Music at Leeds University and having failed to get on the Great manchester Run, this seemed like the next best thing.

As Knowsley's Executive Director of Children's Services, I have adopted 'First Steps' as one of the charities I have raised sponsorship for during the past year. Last year as part of the Knowsley 3 Peaks Challenge, we raised over £2000 in support of the charity which I had the pleasure of presenting in the form of a cheque to some of the children who have been affected by domestic violence, at an event to promote their excellent DVD entilted 'Hidden Voices'. Domestic violence wrecks lives and in particular children's lives and due to its nature is grossly under-recorded.
