IT WASN'T PRETTY BUT WE MADE IT.
Choosing the hottest june day since 1976 to cycle over the North and South Downs perhaps wasn't ideal and it was a good deal hillier than I expected but we made it ok and freewheeling down Ditchling Beacon at well over 40 mph generated a welcome breeze and buzz. My thanks to Andy Wilson, Bella's godfather, and my good friend Steve Smith for accompanying me on the ride and for helping to attract considerable additional funds to the cause. Above all my thanks to all of you who have supported the cause in a way that has exceeded my most hopeful expectations.
And great news for all of you who have been waiting to see whether we made it before donating. This site remains open for business...
I am raising funds for the King's College Hospital Brainwave Fund. My fundraising is motivated by the treatment my 3-year old daughter Bella received at King's last year for a brain tumour. King's acts as the paediatric neurosurgical centre for South East England. Bella's life was saved, and neurological damage limited, by the brilliance of her neurosurgeon, Chris Chandler, using the most up-to-date equipment, some of it donated through the Brainwave Fund. As you can imagine this equipment is extremely specialised, very expensive and that's where you can help.
