Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

65 year-old Fr. John Fagan (sx) is a son of the parish of St. James the Greater, Coatbridge, where I am parish priest. For many years he has served on the mission in Bangladesh - one of the poorest countries on earth. Last year he was assigned a new mission to minister to the Munda tribe - incomers from Northern India who over the years have become marginalised. He had to start from scratch, building a modest home for himself which, as yet, has no running water or electricity, apart from a small solar panel to provide some light. His mission covers six villages and he needs finance for the education of the children and for medical supplies for his people.

In September I completed the 1000 km. Ruta de la Plata from Seville to Santiago de Compostela via Puebla de Sanabria and Ourense - plus a further 149 km. at the start! My plan was to fly to Faro in Portugal and get a train to Seville, but no such train exists. I travelled by train to the border and began cycling from the town of Ayamonte in Huelva province. It was quite a solitary route until I reached Salamanca. I was also blessed with unbroken sunshine until I reached Santiago when it rained!

On behalf of Fr. John Fagan, I cannot thank all my sponsors enough for their outstanding generosity. The fund has reached well over double my target.
