Story
Welcome to my London Landmarks Half Marathon profile page for Diabetes UK. Did you know someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes?
A New Reality: January 2024
Our family’s life changed overnight in January 2024 when our son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Overnight, we were thrust into a complex world of blood glucose tracking, carbohydrate counting, relentless calculations, and round-the-clock vigilance. Watching him face a lifetime-bound, invisible condition with such incredible bravery has been both heartbreaking and profoundly inspiring.
Channeling the Challenge
Type 1 diabetes doesn't take a single day off, and neither does the mental load required to manage it. Running the 26.2 miles of the Brighton Marathon feels like a fitting parallel to the daily endurance our son displays. Every grueling training mile mirrors the unseen hurdles he clears. Taking on this physical challenge is my way of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with him, turning our family’s daily struggle into a powerful force for good.
Why Diabetes UK?
I am running for Diabetes UK because of the vital work they do to support families navigating a recent diagnosis, fund groundbreaking research for better treatments, and ultimately strive for a cure. By securing a charity place, I want to raise awareness, fund future breakthroughs, and ensure that fewer families have to face the overwhelming realities of Type 1 diabetes alone. Every step in Brighton will be driven by the hope of a brighter, easier future for our son and the millions of others living with this condition.
