Windsor Winter Half Marathon · 11 January 2020

The LFT is a non-profit, non-governmental humanitarian organisation whose mission is to empower the world's poorest to lift them out of poverty with dignity. We believe that the eradication of poverty is not only a matter of conscience; it is a prerequisite for the prosperity of humanity at large.

Story

This January we are planning to run the Windsor Winter Half Marathon (21Kilometers) in order to raise funds for those who have to walk long distances (10 Kilometers on average daily) to get water.

It's pretty shocking that due to poor infrastructure 71% of Kenyans rely on unsatisfactory sanitation solutions. Moreover, 41% still rely on getting their water straight from sources such as ponds and rivers which are infested with parasitic and disease-causing organisms. The challenges faced are most prevalent in urban slums and rural areas.

On average people have to walk 10K in order to get water, often with children being pulled out of their lessons to obtain it, which compromises their education. Yet the water that they get will still be dirty and unclean which will lead to illnesses such as cholera, thereby compounding the effects they feel as a result of poverty.

We strongly believe your donations should make an impactful difference in other people's lives. Therefore with your support, we are looking to raise money for a borewell from which water can be filtered for drinking but also desalinated to be used for water irrigation, fish farming and agriculture. Through this aim, together we will not only be sufficing a fundamental human right, but we can contribute towards the sustainable economic upliftment of the people who live in Mombasa, Kenya.

As ultimately, we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
