Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
On the 26th of May I will be running the Edinburgh Marathon for Cancer Research UK. I have chosen the Edinburgh Marathon as Scotland is a place that I love and hold close to me.
Last year me and my family had to say a hard goodbye to my Grandad - John, after a short battle with cancer, that he fought so hard for the later part of his life. Having Cancer never got him down and he continued to enjoy his life in Scotland with his wife by his side till the very end.
Having my grandparents live in Dunfermline, over 400 miles away, was always difficult as I was not able to see them regularly. However, I have great memories of my Dad taking me and my brothers on the long journey to see them during the school holidays, making it that little bit more exciting and special.
Over the last 10 years Cancer has unfortunately been part of my family’s life. It not only affected my grandad, but also my Dad and my older brother Jack. Fortunately both of them were able to smash it and are on their roads to recovery, not letting it get the better of them even when times were tough.
In 2018 I ran my first ever half marathon, pushing me outside my comfort zone and giving me something to work towards. Now more than ever I have decided to take it up a notch and take on my first full marathon.
If you know me you know I’ve never been one for many words, and I wish I was able to support my family a lot more through their tough times.
So I wanted to do something special for all 3 of these incredible men in my life, and show that actions speak louder than words.
I'd be so grateful for any donations you can give to help make a difference for the millions of people around the world battling cancer.
Thank you,
Dan
