Story

So I’ve signed up to do one of the top 10 hardest triathlons and
here’s why…

I would like to tell you about two brave people that I’m privileged to know. They have both fought many battles and jump lots of hurdles that even you or I would struggle with. Countless trips to hospital, being poked and prodded with needles, masses of medication and yet no matter how hard it has been they are both always smiling. The amazing part of my story is that both of these little fighters are under the age of 5!

They both have Inherited Metabolic Disorders which are genetic conditions resulting in metabolism problems. There are hundreds
of different types of genetic metabolic disorders and their symptoms,
treatments and prognoses vary widely. These disorders effect 1 in 2,500
people and it’s very random that I’m close to two families with children who have to live with these disorders.

I can’t just praise these kids without praising the rest of their families as well. I really do take my hat off to them and all of the others families in the same situation.

So how can you and I help?

I’ve entered one of the top 10 hardest triathlons in the world,
and would appreciate any donations you could make to the charity Climb that looks after these little fighters and their families.

Climb help the children and their families with bespoke support
tailored to their needs, connect families worldwide, fund research and raise awareness of these conditions.

Here’s what I’ll be doing:

I’ll head up to the Lake District on the 3rd Sept, swim 1 mile in Ullswater lake (brrrrr) then cycle 38 miles up Kirkstone Pass (1489ft) which includes cycling up a section called "The Struggle" which is a 20% incline (blimey that’s steep). After I peel myself off my bike I’ll run 9 miles up and down Helvellyn Peak (3118ft) whilst carrying enough water and food, waterproofs, a map, space blanket, whistle, lilo and flipflops (the last two are not essentials).

This is going to be one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever done and you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth with your donation
to such an amazing charity.
