Story
I am running the TCS London Marathon 2022 for the Stroke Association in memory of my partner Laura's mum, Joanne Lisa George.
Jo is the most incredible and caring person, she has a kind and bubbly personality that always makes you smile and laugh when around her.
She always puts others before herself and worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, and prior to the pandemic, as a carer working for 12 days then having 2 days off on repeat for years, putting other people's health and well being before her own.
On Monday 10th May my partner Laura received news that her mum had an unexpected stroke, initially it was expected that she would make a recovery albeit not a full recovery and if she were to survive then she could be disabled and unsure to what extent and for how long.
Visits to the hospital on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, however on Wednesday it became apparent that Jo would not survive and would pass away, which happened on Thursday 13th May to the devastation of the entire family, friends and colleagues and continues to be an incredibly difficult time as a family and to all of those who were lucky enough to have met her.
The loss of Jo has greatly impacted the family and her friends, however the desire from all of us to now raise awareness and help others who are impacted by a stroke.
That is why I am running the 2022 London Marathon to raise support and funds for Stroke Association to fund critical research and campaign to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their lives.
Nothing I or anyone does can bring Jo back, but for myself and my wider family it would mean so much to be able to help other potential cases and ensure that they do not have the amount of suffering that we have endured as a family.
Any money raised will go directly to Stroke Association and help provide specialist support, fund critical research and campaign to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their lives.
A stroke changes lives in an instant and is a leading cause of disability in the UK. Research is vital to find new ways and to improve care and treatment for over 1.2 million people in the UK living with the effects of stroke.
I will never forget the impact that Jo made on mine and other people's lives, she is an incredible mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend to many who left us way too soon.
She will be forever loved and remembered.
Thank you for taking the time to read the story of the fundraising I am undertaking. Myself, Jo's family & friends and those impacted by a stroke would be incredible grateful for any donation possible.
