Story

Hey!

For those who don’t know me, my name is Dan!

I am a MSc Psychology student at The University of Exeter and I also work in the NHS as a Mental Health Health Care Assistant. I hope to support those affected by childhood abuse as a specialist trauma psychologist in the future.

Childhood abuse trauma is especially difficult as it causes the body to adapt physiologically, emotionally and psychologically at a deep level in comparison to one off trauma events. This often leads to adults having Complex PTSD a type of PTSD deeply engrained into every aspect of life. This can lead to mental illness, physical illness and emotional dysregulation - all due to the child’s body having to adapt to the horrors they were put through.

Fortunately,  charities such as NAPAC offers support for victims of abuse and their support networks. Highly trained specialists are available to listen and put support in place for those who bravely come forward on their courageous journey to healing.

50k across Dartmoor  is a challenging distance for someone who doesn’t run often and who hasn’t even run a marathon,  however it’s a mere fart in a hurricane in comparison to what the survivors of abuse have to face every day.
