Story
Hi there.
On April 2nd 2023, I am running the 'London Landmarks Half Marathon' to raise money for 'Anthony Nolan' charity, along with my wife Katie and other members of the Willard family.
In 2022, my uncle Gary was diagnosed with 'Acute Myeloid Leukemia' and since that time has been a patient at Worthing Hospital where he has been receiving ongoing treatment. This treatment includes multiple cycles of intense chemotherapy, round the clock medication and testing, as well as the well known side affects of chemo to overcome.
The news and journey so far has been incredibly difficult for Gary as well as his wife Sarah and 3 children, Charlotte, Vicky and Tom. The news has shocked and devastated our family and everyone who knows him.
Gary has fought and continues to fight this disease without complaint, taking the journey one day at a time and always trying to look towards the future and staying positive for everyone around him.
Gary is now at the stage where he will shortly be going to Kings hospital in London where a stem cell transplant (formerly known as bone marrow transplant) will be completed. This vital procedure is made possible by 'Anthony Nolan', having found a suitable donor match for this next stage.
"Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between patients in need and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. We are saving lives right now. Three lives a day, in fact".
I know that times are tough for everyone financially, but even a few quid donated will make a huge difference and allow A.N to continue building the donor register, connecting patients with donors and all the other amazing work they do every day.
I cant promise I will be fast getting round the 13 mile course, and it definitely wont be pretty but I will get round one way or another, so please donate to my cause if you can.
Cheers.
Dan
