Sense is here to support disabled people from the first weeks of life through all the major milestones of adulthood. Over 70 years, we’ve built extensive knowledge and expertise in supporting disabled people with complex needs, including deafblind people.

Hey everyone, Thank you for being so generous. I am extremely grateful especially when there's no shortage of people asking for your money ....... Especially the politicians (whoa, easy tiger). Please follow my updates on Twitter - I'm @david2geneva Thanks again!

Hi

(Training BLOG)

UPDATE - On June 14th, 2010 I will cycle from Birmingham to London (Blackheath) to Paris and finally to Geneva over 10 days, averaging 90miles per day, The cycle totals approximately 900 miles, though if someone makes it really worth while, I'll cycle from Birmingham adding a further 150 miles to the challenge :) - someone made it worth my while!

I chair a voluntary board for the National Deafblind & Rubella charity, SENSE. I started supporting SENSE about 3 years ago when I was introduced to the work they do in the Midlands.

My reason for supporting the charity was not only because of the work they do with deafblind children, but more understandably to me, the work they do in supporting those with acquired deafblindness in later life. This is applicable to many of us. For example, many elderly family members may classify as deafblind without knowing that the support is available - this could happen to any of us.

By completing this challenge I want to raise awareness and for the work the charity does and obviously, important funds to help SENSE keep their hard work going. (To give you an idea, Apple MACs come pre-installed with software that allows deafblind people to study, or read an online version of a newspaper, or even to have it automatically read to them. One of these costs about £800 and would allow a SENSE centre to help give additional 'life' to many deafblind sufferers).

In getting to Geneva I will complete many miles of training, including taking part in the infamous Tour of Flanders 150km sportive. The cycle totals approximately 850 miles, though if someone makes it really worth while, I'll cycle from Birmingham adding a further 130 miles to the challenge :)

Please donate and support me, and if you want to know more about the charity, please contact me - 07811 287 881.

Thank you in advance

David
