Story
I am taking part in a ‘lost hours walk’ in memory of my brother Gavin, who tragically took his own life on December 22nd 2021. Although Gav was the life and soul of the party and was loved by so many friends, family and his son & Daughter, we were unaware of his feelings inside which he shouldered but was always smiling and looking out for others, until the day he left us.
I have worked for Edenstone Homes in the design/planning team for well over 4 years. Their charity, 'Edenstone Foundation' makes grants to local community projects and causes across South Wales, the Three Counties (Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire) and the Southwest of England. A share of the proceeds from every home sold by Edenstone Homes is gifted to the Edenstone Foundation. Edenstone staff also raise funds to help support the Foundation’s work in even more communities http://edenstonefoundation.com
A few months ago, I relocated from the south Wales office in Magor to the new Southwest office in Portishead. I think it would be rather fitting to walk from one office to another, this equates to roughly 27 miles. I will be walking with my father-in-law who is a retired colonel for the British army, so I'm sure he will keep me on the right track!!
One of my most treasured possessions is an old Liverpool FC shirt of Gav’s, which I will be wearing on the 30th October when I take on the challenge. Being a Chelsea supporter, I think this will be more of a personal test than walking for over 9 hours!
CALM – WHAT WE STAND FOR
We stand together with everyone who’s struggling with life, no matter who they are, where they’re form or what they are going through. And we do it through our life-saving services, national campaigns, and by building communities.
CALM’S LOST HOUR WALK 2022
125 lives are lost every week to suicide, and 75% of all UK suicides are male. We are walking to send the message that, its not okay. We’re walking for the brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, partners and friends we’ve lost. We’re walking against suicide.
‘As the clocks go back, walk forwards against struggling in silence’
Thanks for taking time to read my story.
