The UK government plans to send refugees & asylum seekers to Rwanda, which is not only inhumane to offshore people 4,000 miles away, but illegal under the United Nations Refugee Convention, international humanitarian law.
The first flight on June 14th was stopped by incredible human rights lawyers, NGOs and charities in the sector, protestors taking to the streets, emails and twitter storms, and 20 minutes before take off, the European Court of Human Rights. The refugee rights sector is preparing for a long legal battle against future flight plans.
UK Must Act is a chapter of Europe Must Act, campaigning for fair and humane migration reform across the UK and Europe. The UK is launching our own #WelcomeForAll campaign inspired by EMA's calls to heads of European states and lawmakers to apply the same support and urgency that's been shown to Ukrainian refugees, to refugees from all over the world. "Europe’s border regime represents a bridge to safety for Ukrainians. Yet for other refugees it looks like walls, fences and prison-like camps. The supportive stance taken by both governments and citizens towards welcoming people seeking sanctuary shows that positive and community-based responses to migration can be implemented again."
