Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! In September I will be walking the Freedom Trail through the Pyrenees, following in the footsteps of World War Two escapees and refugees. I will be completing this arduous 4-day trek with only the clothes, equipment and food that would have been available to these Prisoners of War at the time.
Their journey would have been treacherous; the men were faced with blistering heat, freezing cold nights and the constant threat of being discovered. While my own journey will lack this urgency, it will nevertheless push me to the very limit and highlight the absolute importance of remembering the hardships that so many experienced.
The route takes 4 days, climbing and descending many times until I reach Spain. Walking with temperatures reaching 35°C in the valleys and trawling through snowy peaks, the tallest being over 2.5km high.
The Royal British Legion plays an important role in ensuring that members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants, are provided with appropriate financial, social and emotional support. It is through their hard work that we can ensure men and women like those whose footsteps I will be following, will receive the support they deserve, and will never be forgotten.
