Building Houses in Peru · 11 August 2017

We're a grant-making trust dedicated to supporting charitable and community initiatives that alleviate poverty; advance young people through education; and support those with learning or physical disabilities or mental health problems. 100% of donations go directly towards achieving these aims.

Story

On August 11th 2017 I will be leading a team of volunteer colleagues to the Las Laderas, a shanty town in Peru to complete the final phase of a long term initiative to build 100 homes for extremely marginalised people who are living on the fringes of society in precarious & insecure conditions.

Employment, fear of landslides & floods, and the safety of being able to leave their children or any personal possessions secure are daily concerns for these people.

But your support can help make a world of difference. By contributing you will be an integral part of the support team enabling this to happen! To understand what difference you can make please watch the short video here: https://youtu.be/dsc1PXvwDlY

Every member of the team who is accompanying me is paying for their own flights & all expenses. The two previous expeditions have helped construct the first 50 houses and we have since funded and facilitated another 30 homes creating local employment with builders in the process. This time we are going out to help build the final 20.

One of the most important things about this project is that EVERY penny sponsored goes directly to Project Peru, to making a difference at grass roots level. Unlike so many well meaning charities, the funds raised for this project ARE NOT consumed by staff wages, office overheads, marketing or fund campaigning costs.  ALL contributions end up where they are intended - in the community. And it's not a handout. This project helps creates employment for the locals whom we will be working alongside.

Whilst I will be contributing the time on the ground on location, the whole project is only as strong as the support of good people such as yourself - the wider team & donors who make it possible!

We will put the graft into turning your sponsorship into a house for a family! Myself and the Amoria Bond volunteer team needs to raise at least £15,000 (in addition to self-funding the trip). Each complete home costs £750 and provides 4 walls, a roof and lockable door (things we take for granted). Your donation, no matter how small, will help make this happen.

What your contributions will fund:
£750 buys a complete home for up to 6 people

This Breakdown as follows:
£145 - concrete base for home
£120 - a roof
£280 (£70 x 4) - four walls
£90 - wages for local employment of builders
£50 - lockable door to provide security
£40 - transport & delivery of all materials
£25 - nails & fixtures

With your support our goal is to complete the last 20 homes which will total 100.

By night we will be staying in the children’s refuge which is a sanctuary for many of the children who’s families (from the area the houses are being built) are not in a position to care full time for them (due to reasons such as death, employment, illness or other socioeconomic challenges). The refuge provides a warm, loving environment & supports education & responsibilities whilst assisting the families in raising their children in times of need.

The whole project IS NOT just a hand out - it’s a cross cultural exchange, it’s working alongside the locals and benefactors in their home community, it’s providing much needed local employment, it’s an opportunity to inspire hope & faith. We will share with you some of their stories & the impact your support has, when we are over there!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION - EVERY PENNY COUNTS.

With gratitude, thank you for your time & support

Daniel
