Today in London the number of rough sleepers has doubled over the past decade, with an average age of death at just 44 years old, with many from suicide. Between April 2018 and March 2019 Southwark council saw 2,953 homeless approaches. (Southwark key housing stats 2020 pg 47) More than one in three people sleeping rough have deliberately been hit or kicked, and a third of women facing homelessness have experienced sexual violence. You can make an incredible difference to the many who find themselves in this vulnerable position.
I have previously worked with the homeless community at Webber Street day centre for many years gaining priceless experience, and even managing the day centre one day a week. I am now mobilising various churches in Southwark & training them how they can best support the homeless people in the new area LCM has placed me, which is Southwark. So, I will be doing my sleep out in Southwark, Your donations will be huge blessing in this endeavour. I have linked a short video to give you a idea of how Webber Street help the homeless as we will be mirroring that type of care and approach when we’re training churches. Your donation will support my new work in Southwark.
