Jog 30 miles this June to support people living with epilepsy.

Story

I'm jogging/walking 30 miles in June for Epilepsy Action and your contribution will help more people take control of their epilepsy and hopefully make more people aware of epilepsy.

My son Jaxon has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy after having a number of unexplained seizures. After the diagnosis my wife and I struggled mentally and still struggle each day as our lives have completely changed. The seizures can happen at any time day or night and everyday is a constant worry.

Before the diagnosis we didn't have much knowledge of epilepsy at all. After being assigned a specialist epileptic nurse for Jaxon and watching videos and reading information on the Epilepsy Action website we are now more aware of epilepsy and the different types of seizures associated with epilepsy as well as having more knowledge of what to do if our son or anyone else has a seizure.

By doing this and raising some money it can help Epilepsy Action bring more attention to epilepsy, reduce the stigma surrounding epilepsy, make more people aware of different types of seizures, how to help if anyone has a seizure and help further investigations.

My wife has worded her feelings and put the reasoning for me doing the challenge so much better than I have so here is her take on our sons diagnosis.

"Our son has been having seizures for nearly a year and has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy which has been so hard to digest.

There is so much about epilepsy that most people won't be aware of. The daily impact of extra stress and worry that it has on families.

We have had so much information to take in and try to understand. We also have had to be trained to give rescue medication and have to carry it with us at all times. Jax also has a specialist nurse we can speak to whenever we need to.

Jaxon recently had 16 seizures over the course of 3 days whilst we were on holiday which was horrible. I am determined to not let this get in the way of normal life and hopfully as time goes on it will get easier.
By raising awareness and fundraising we can help that little bit more."

For anyone that knows me knows that I am the unfittest I have ever been. So 30 miles isn't going to be easy but I am determined to raise more awareness of epilepsy. Whether you donate £1 or £10. Every little bit helps and is appreciated. Thank you for your support.
