YMCA East Surrey offers a variety of programmes and activities to help people believe in themselves, support them to achieve their goals and inspire them to reach their full potential. Their wide range of community services focus on those who are vulnerable, have a disability or face disadvantage.
The YMCA Raid Pyrenees is the ultimate event for enthusiastic and devoted road cyclists. All monies raised will go to this very worthwhile charity and I have self-funded this challenge.
In the 1950’s the Cyclo Club Béarnais were looking for a challenge, so they created a route across the Pyrenees, keeping as close to the Spanish border as possible and, here is where it gets even more exciting, they only had 100 hours to complete the epic ride.
It takes on climbs such as Col du Tourmalet (you’ve seen this one on the Tour de France!), Col d’Aubisque, Col de Portet d’Aspet and the Col d’Aspin and cycles along quiet and beautiful back roads and passes of France’s southernmost mountain range.
