Story

I have always wanted to take on the Ironman challenge. 2.4 miles of swimming at Tenby North beach, 112 mile bike ride through the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and then  26.2 miles of running through Tenby town. Sounds like a great day out.

I have been running for years. Saturdays usually start with a parkrun. I have completed the last 10 Cardiff half-marathons and some longer stuff as well. In 2017 I finished the London marathon which was a highlight. I am always happy on my bike when the sun is out and I have a ticked off a few 100 mile rides in the last couple of years.

The real challenge here is likely to be the swimming. Having done very little since I completed my 25 metre badge in primary school, the thought of swimming nearly 4 kilometres is quite daunting.

As well as the race in September I will also be running the 18.5 mile Vale Coastal Race, taking on the Legend (half-Ironman distance) Cardiff Triathlon and The Cardiff Half Marathon.

I want to finish the race, raise some money and raise awareness of the amazing work of Childline here in Wales and all across the UK.

Childline is the UK's free, 24-hour helpline for children and young people.

Childline gives children and young people access to confidential support when they need it and ensures they have someone to turn to when they are in distress or danger.

I started volunteering as a counsellor at Childline in 2021 and I do a shift a week where I talk to some amazing children and young people about what is happening in their lives.

ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC
