SANDHURST TO REDRUTH - 250 MILE CYCLE

On 4 June this year I will embarking on a solo (unless anyone feels the inclination to join me) cycle from my home in Sandhurst to Redruth in Cornwall. The cycle ride is in aid of the Halow Project a fantastic young charity based in Guildford.

The halow Projects aim is to provide support and assistance to enable young adults between the ages of 16-35 with learning disabilities to live independently. To do this they provide assistance in finding housing, work and social events.

My aim is to raise £1,000 in support of this charity. I appreciate that this is a large sum of money and so to encourage donations I am prepared not only to undertake the challenge but also to add a little ritual humiliation into the mix. So, all those lovely generous people who donate can, if they chose, make a suggestion as to what clothing I cycle in. If the target is reached then I will try to acheive as many of the suggestions as possible. The only caveats being it has to be practical (no wedding dresses or leather cat suits) and I can't be arrested for wearing it (no mankinis).

Now why am I doing this: -

Six years ago my brother moved to Cornwall. Two years ago I began cycling to work. Following a very slow game of tedious links I connected these two simple facts and came up with an aim. I would cycle to Cornwall. Well, that is almost the truth. There is also the fact, a third fact if you will, that I was getting rounder with every pint of beer I gleefully consumed. A very large cycle ride would obviously melt away all that (puppy) fat and return my boyish curves to me.

As you may guess from the title to the page I live in Sandhurst. My brother lives in Redruth. This is a distance of 250 miles which I hope to cover over three days. I have to. I have a train ticket booked for the return journey on 7 June.
