Story
Marine Conservation has been a growing passion of mine since working in the dive industry and witnessing first hard the fragility of marine ecosystems and the various pressures facing our oceans.
Therefore, I want to raise money for the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) to support the amazing work they do. For anyone who hasn’t heard of MCS they organise beach cleans, support the largest citizen science project and coordinate underwater dive surveys with Sea-search to collect information about the species and habitats around the UK. This information is used to support decisions about Marine Protected areas and MPZ's and so much more. An incredible 80% of their donations goes directly towards conservation!!!!!!!
So, come September I’ll be breaking down my bike and packing it into a box and making my way to Romania to embark on an epic cycle challenge with my two friends.
We will take with us only what we can carry on the bikes for 10 days of cycling. Throughout the trip I will be trying to shed weight where ever possible in an attempt to make the bike lighter as my legs get heavier :)
Though it will be amazing to get away from work and be outside all day long with no thoughts other than which way to go and when can I eat again, this is going to be a big challenge - over 700 miles in total! I thought what better motivation to keep me peddling mile after mile, hill after hill and day after day than the knowledge that I am raising money for a cause I support so much!
I have had some of the most amazing experiences in UK waters including but not limited to: snorkelling with a Basking shark (Cornwall), swimming with seals (or more accurately being pulled around by my fins) (Northumberland) and being lucky enough to have a dog shark swim within 5cm of my mask in slow motion (Cornwall).
I truely believe that everyone should have the opportunity to have similar experiences and be blown away by the diversity of our UK waters for years to come.
