Story

Hiya!

Thanks for reading my story and any donations you can give. It means a lot to me and my family and will really help me get to the finish of the London marathon.

I lost my wonderful husband Colin to melanoma on 11th May 2021. I have applied to London marathon for 8 years. This was before Colin’s Diagnosis. I finally got a place for last year of all years . I was not ready as I couldn’t focus with losing Colin. With that in mind when they allowed me to defer I just had to do it for Colin and try to help others going through what he did.

Any cancer is hard but the normal treatments just doesn’t work for melanoma. And this is why I want to help research focusing on treatments for melanoma and support for those with it.

Colin’s story

In 2016 colin had a mole suddenly appear on his shoulder. There was no skin cancer in his family but when he went to the hospital was diagnosed with melanoma. He had op to remove and lymph node removed to test if it had spread. The results of this showed it was in his lymph’s. Scans showed was no where else so just had his lymph’s removed. Colin was cancer free and just had to go every 6 months then year to have scans. What would of been his 2nd to last scan in July 2020 they found 3 melanoma lesions on his lungs. He was offered a trial treatment but by October they found he had 7 on his brain. This meant he had to have radiation and then Immuno therapy. By December he was in a lot of pain and this was when the seizures started. By January they had to stop these treatments as more lesions were found and so move to Braf as he was lucky to have the right proteins. I was sadly informed he wouldn’t last the year. I kept this from him and never let him know he was dying but deep down he might of known. The braf works like a stop switch to the cancer. Therefore wouldn’t get rid of but would stop any growth. We thought this was working but by April he started to get very confused and seizure started again. He went down hill very quickly within 3 weeks he had passed away at the age of 40. Leave me and our 2 children.

I’m telling you Colin’s story so you can see how important finding a treatment is. He was very unlucky to get this disease and it only really gave us 9 months from when it came back before he passed away. By me running this marathon (and I do feel I am self harming with the training) can help another family not go through what we did I will get through it and achieve this for Colin. Any donations great or small can go along way.

Thank you again for reading this and any donation you can give x x x
