Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Just over 12 months ago my amazing dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myleoma and was told it is terminal.
For anyone that doesn't know what this is, Myeloma is a blood cancer that develops in plasma cells. Plasma cells are a white blood cell made in the bone marrow.
As you can imagine, this diagnosis was heart breaking. It also came at a time when covid had hit. The first thing you want to do when you hear that awful news is hug that person..and i couldn't. Instead, dad and I spent weeks talking to each other through his living room window. Possibly the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
Despite all that, my dad has proven that he is a fighter. He has had a ridiculous amount of chemotherapy, lost his hair and eyebrows (which have bizarrely now grown back dark-hes pleased with this!), he had a stem cell transplant in November and now has a second transplant this month.
His second transplant is using cells from a donor. It carries a high risk but I know dad will continue to fight it.
I am tackling The Great North Run to raise awareness for Myleoma cancer and to also raise money for the charity so that the research can continue and hopefully one day a cure can be found.
A half marathon is definitely a challenge for me. But if dad can tackle everything he's had thrown at him, then I can get through a couple of hours of running!
Any donations will be very much appreciated.
