Run for British Heart Foundation · 6 August 2020

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Thank you for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. More work needs to be done!

From working within the medical profession, I've seen many patients being admitted with chest pain due to heart attacks or angina over the past few years. Some of you are aware, but unfortunately things hit a bit closer to home the other week. I was completely shocked to come back from work to find my dad had been one of these patients. It was scary time for all of my family and quite unexpected (for those that know my dad he is one of the most active and healthiest people out there - doing his crazy extreme sports almost daily).

It was certainly a wake up call, and I decided now would be a good time to take some action via different steps.

Step 1) I am not as active as my dad, so decided now would be a good time to improve my own personal fitness. With physical inactivity being one of the most significant risk factors for heart disease. You can reduce your risk of developing heart and circulatory disease by as much as 35% by being more active. So I've decided to challenge myself to run 100k over the month of September. As a new runner, this is definitely a step outside my comfort zone! And I certainly have a lot of training to do!

Step 2) To raise money for the BHF a fantastic cause (but to also motivate me to run!). Any donations no matter how great or small will really boost me, and will be very much appreciated :)

Step 3) To spread some awareness around cardiovascular disease and key preventative measures. Heart and circulatory diseases cause more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK; nearly 170,000 deaths each year - an average of 460 people each day or one death every three minutes.

Sending a big heart felt thank you to all those who are willing to support me on this challenge, whether that is via donation or a message of encouragement

(Will be posting more in September - but in the meantime I've got a lot of work to do... )

Thank you for reading my page.
