When children in foster care are in crisis, Lawyers For Children's attorneys and social workers are at their side to provide protection, support, and hope. LFC ensures that NYC’s most vulnerable young people know their rights will be protected and that their voices will be heard. LFC is not just a law firm or an advocacy organization; it's a community that our young clients know they can always turn to for help.
In response to increasing threats to immigrant rights, LFC has bolstered its immigration advocacy. Months before the zero-tolerance policy ramped up, LFC was involved in a family separation case that later became a class action. LFC, along with other children's rights organizations, filed an amicus brief in support of the children, which was cited by the court as the basis for finding that the harm to children caused by family separation required the federal government to reunite families on a strict timetable. In April, LFC was at theU.S. Supreme Court arguingthe real harm the latest proposed “travel ban” would have on children and families. LFC'sImmigration Rights Projectis also working around the clock to support our undocumented clients and navigate ever-changing policy shifts that are creating increased anxiety and fear among the young people we serve.
