Worldwide, instances of kidney disease are on the rise. This horrendous disease - for which there is no cure - can affect anyone of any age. The treatments are gruelling, and it destroys lives, not only of the afflicted but of those around them. Those of you who know me personally can testify to the very real state I was in when my kidneys failed. I was attached to a dialysis machine for several hours a day, 6 days a week, my only way out being the prospect of a kidney transplant.

In July 2020 I was enormously fortunate to be given the gift of a kidney transplant from a deceased donor, and it has transformed my life. But millions of people worldwide are not so lucky. The only real hope for new, progressive treatments and a possible cure, is continued investment in research. Which is why I am making my return to marathon running in the name of Kidney Research UK.

I intend for London 2023 to mark both my triumphant return to, and retirement from Marathon Running. Besides being several years older, I am not the same person I used to be and am finding the training incredibly tough. Not that training for a marathon is ever easy!

I am one of the lucky few, having been afforded the enormous privilege of both receiving a transplant and recovering to a point where this kind of event is even a possibility. But many others are not so lucky. Please sponsor my so that those less fortunate than me may be offered the hope of a future beyond kidney disease.
