Story
Imagine being a fit and healthy 30 year old, mother of two young children and then suddenly, unexpectedly finding out you have aggressive, stage 3 breast cancer. Crazy right! But this was my reality on 01/07/2021.
I found a lump while breastfeeding in 2020 and it was dismissed due to being ‘too young’ to get breast cancer. Great news I thought, so I left it. The lump grew. Eventually I had it checked again and after several tests and referrals I was told I had cancer that had spread to my lymph nodes.
13 rounds of chemotherapy, sepsis, a blood clot in my heart, a double mastectomy with lymph node clearance, 15 rounds of radiotherapy and 18 hormone therapy injections and here we are… one year in remission and waiting to be discharged from oncology this summer, hopefully.
A rollercoaster doesn’t quite sum up the last few years, trying to run a business, be a mother and fight to survive some days just seemed impossible. Yet I did it, because I had to. For Betsy and Dexter more than anything.
I lost my much loved hair, both boobs and the beauty that comes with living carefree without the worry of cancer. However I’m here, I survived and my life will never be taken for granted.
I created The Boob Battle on instagram to help raise awareness of breast cancer and show what life with cancer and treatment is like. Now that treatment has finished I want to keep educating people as well as help charities who are so vital in the cancer world.
Coppafeel are an incredible charity doing so much for people with breast cancer but also educating everyone on the importance of regular self checks for early detection.
Had I been educated from a younger age on self checking, my journey may have been more straightforward, less evasive.
Charity work has been high on to do list since my cancer battle so that’s where CoppaTrek comes in.
Myself and Ant applied and amazingly both got accepted to take part in this years charity trek along with some famous faces! We will be taking on a 5 day trek across mountainous terrain in the French Alps, in a bid to raise funds towards CoppaFeel's life-saving mission. It just so happens to fall on my birthday as well which will be very different to my 2021 birthday when I was hooked up to chemo!
Your donations will not only support our fundraising target, but most importantly CoppaFeel! They are on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that young people are regularly checking their boobs, pecs and chests and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something just doesn't feel normal.
Help us help this incredible charity change and save lives!
Thanks so much for your donation & support. To find out more about CoppaFeel! head to www.coppafeel.org.
