Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

In 2017, I lost my incredible Dad, Alistair Gray (Ali), to Lewy Body Dementia, which developed after a long, tough battle with Parkinson's disease.

It was the most brutal thing to go through, both for him and for our family. Unfortunately, none of the available preventative medications worked, and over a 15 year period, his livelihood, ability to function and dignity were slowly taken away from him, in the cruelest way imaginable.

Despite all the setbacks he faced; the falls, diagnoses, continuous moves to new nursing homes, and the aggressive progression of his illness, he was the most positive, charismatic person you could meet, and he fought until the very end with such grace. Things became too much in the end, and he passed away on 9th March, 2017.

It devastated our family.

Having been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease so early on in his life (as well as several other family members), I am determined to raise as much money as I can to help fund the necessary research to find a cure for brain-related diseases.

I am running the London marathon in April 2024 alongside some heroic friends, to spread awareness of these types of diseases, and to support one of the many amazing charities who are desperately trying to find a cure.

This is for my Dad x
