Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 14th March 2020 I will be stepping into the ring at the DW Stadium, with the prospect of having my front teeth knocked out in front of 600+ people. What the hell am I thinking?
I'm thinking that for the next 8 weeks of training I can get my butt away from a desk or sofa and do something with my time that can help raise money for a fantastic cause, get myself a little fitter and hopefully make my friends and family proud.
Cancer is something that has had a far-reaching impact on those that I love. My dad is currently undergoing chemotherapy and his treatment plan will continue throughout my training and beyond. By stepping into the ring I hope to also give some strength to my mum, my three younger brothers and my twin sisters who are about to turn 18.
A huge inspiration to me is my wife Charlotte, who lost her dad Chris to cancer 6 years ago - after beating it before. When you live with somebody who's dealt with that pain and continues to deal with it, you truly realise the devastating impact that Cancer has on families. On fight night, if I show just a glimmer of the strength that Charlotte, her mum and brother have shown then I know I'll be OK.
A final source of inspiration comes from my best man Adam, who's dad lost his fight after beating cancer on previous occasions. Adam is one of the strongest people I know and I didn't give him enough credit when he boxed for charity 3 times. I'll be looking for Adam if I lose my b***ocks at any point in the next 8 weeks.
In summary, Cancer is a b**tard. I'm not going to change the world by doing this one thing but if we all pull together and play our small part then together we can beat Cancer!
