Danny's birthday morning swim · 1 February 2015

Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by the sudden cardiac death. We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

Recently I was asked if I ever raised sponsorship money when taking part in big events, like Weymouth Half 2014, Prudential Ride 100 or the upcoming Ironman 70.3 Gdynia, Poland.

And that got me thinking... it's about time I started

So, to celebrate my 39th birthday this year I would like to try and raise some money to support Cardiac Risk in the Young - a charity suggested by the same person who posed the question to me. CRY do great work trying to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YCSD) through communication and testing, as well as provide bereavement support for the family of unfortunate victims.

Those of you who know me well enough probably know that I can happily knock out 2,000m in the pool before going to work in the morning. However, I've never swum more than 2,500m in one session so this is going to be a challenge.

Just to spice things up I'm out the night before with the cast of Cirque de Soleil at St Paul's Cathedral and I've got a hard time limit of 90 minutes before rushing to my daughter (Amy's) school assembly and then straight into a day long security audit at work.

So please spare a few pounds to support this worthy cause and I'll do everything I can to complete the distance in the time available.
