Ronald McDonald House Charities is an independent charity providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children in hospital. There are 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK supporting over 6000 families every year by enabling them to stay close to their sick children.

Here is my story (well, my Mum's anyway)....

"Danny was just a normal, fit, healthy, football mad 9 year old.

Last easter his teacher mentioned he didn’t seem himself & was tired a lot of the time (generally not his cheeky self).

To cut a long story short, after a few trips to the doctors & a referral to the Hospital for a scan, he was diagnosed with a hole in the heart. Every parents nightmare.

Under normal circumstances this could be fixed with a straightforward procedure.

Unfortunately in Dans case, we were referred to Alder Hey to see a Cardiac specialist.

We were hit with the news, that due to the size of the hole, the “simple” procedure would not be an option & he needed open heart surgery to build the missing wall in his heart. He's 9. Nine!

We were told that unless he had the operation, it could be fatal, as his heart was already significantly swollen and was only going to get worse.

Dan had surgery in February this year. He was incredibly brave throughout it and I am so happy and delighted to be able to say that our big man has made a complete recovery.

He was in Alder Hey for a full week & during this time he had the most incredible care from all the staff at Alder Hey. However, we couldn’t have coped without the support & sanctuary of the Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey

They provided accommodation for us where we could sleep, shower and, sometimes, just escape from the constant pressure of what we as a family were going through.

If it were not for RMH one of us would have had to sleep on the ward, with the other making the daily 100 mile round trip, spending precious time away from our son.

RMH provide parents with accommodation to over 2000 families each year, completely free of charge, with no government funding.

They rely completely on voluntary contributions to raise the £600k per year to keep the house running. An amazing effort for the benefit of families in similar circumstances to us
So please help us to help them,

Thank-you! xxx"
