Story

At the end of 2022 I retired from the fire service having completed my 30 years service. As a little treat my partner Naomi and I went on an amazing holiday to the pacific coast of Mexico. Within a few weeks of our return Naomi received a terminal cancer diagnosis. As you can imagine this was a massive shock especially for someone who is active and enjoyed scuba diving, paddle boarding, kayaking and walking.Shortly after the diagnosis Naomi started receiving treatment at Velindre Cancer Hospital. This is my way of saying thank you to the amazing staff at Velindre for the care and dedication they give all persons who have been affected by Cancer. So I have signed up to complete the Mount Toubkal trek in July 2024.Mount Toubkal 4,167 meters high is the highest peak in North Africa. This is an arduous adventure which involves trekking for many hours a day in extreme temperatures. This trek will raise vital funds for Velindre Cancer Centre which provides support and treatment for cancer patients and families in Wales. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and the effects that has on individuals and their families.

UPDATE.....sadly on 17th March Naomi passed away peacefully in her sleep exactly 1 year to the day that she started her chemotherapy treatment. This trek has now taken on increased significance and her spirit will be with me every step of the way 💔
