Story
I did it!!! At 0715 on New Year's Day I stood at Uhuru Peak on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa.
It was an amazing trek up and across the volcano to the last camp before a brutal overnight effort to the summit but it has all been worth it. A fantastic experience for myself and the other people in my expedition but more importantly, you can see that I have raised a large sum of money for MAG, well exceeding the target.
Thank you all for your support over the last 9 months, for all your donations and encouragement and for Ali for making this seem possible at all.
Lots of love, Dan x x
Over New Year 2010/11 I have committed myself to raise money for the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.
MAG operates in current and former conflict zones across the globe to clear unexploded munitions; reducing the threat to local populations whilst releasing reclaimed and safe land back to communities. To read more about MAG's hard work please see the box on the left or their website at www.maginternational.org.
The target is £3400 and whilst some of this goes towards supporting the challenge, the majority directly funds the charity’s work assisting communities. I have contributed to MAG for the past few years and have already personally paid several hundred pounds in deposits and registration fees so this is something that I am absolutely dedicated to achieving. It is also made all the more special to me giving my recent recovery from serious back injury.
