My name is Katie and this year I'm taking on a new challenge. This year, I will be fundraising and volunteering for Caudwell Children. Specifically, I will be volunteering on their Destination Dreams trip.  You can read a bit more about me and how I came to be part of this amazing opportunity on my blog www.darcydreams.weebly.com

Each year,  Caudwell Children organise the holiday of a lifetime for 25 children with terminal or life limiting illnesses and their families. They take them to Florida (of course, where else?!) where they get to experience the magic of Disney (and Universal and Sea World) for themselves and create magical memories to last a lifetime. Most importantly, they get to have a holiday together as a family. For most of these families this is something which simply couldn’t happen without the support of Caudwell Children. For these families, everyday life is a carousel of hospital appointments, treatments and often surgeries. A holiday would ordinarily be out of the question. That’s where Caudwell step in. They provide a team of dedicated medical staff to support the families and a team of volunteers (known as purple people!) to help support them with whatever they need to make the trip possible/easier/magical. The support network gives the parents the confidence to relax and just enjoy their time with their children – something I’m sure it’s hard to remember to do when you’re constantly juggling appointments and treatments. It also lets them know they are not alone – through the trip they get to meet other parents in the same boat as them and create a valuable support network that will last long beyond the last fireworks over Cinderella Castle. Destination Dreams sounds like the perfect name for this trip right?

I'll be working on a variety of fundraising activities over the next few months as I aim to raise £1200 to help send the families to Florida.

My aim throughout this is to raise valuable funds for the charity, raise awareness of the fantastic (and life changing) work they do and ultimately create amazing memories for a group of extremely special families.
