Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Darcy's Beauty and Nail Emporiums JustGiving page.

In my job not only are we someones beautician, but clients open up to us, tell you things that some may not have even told there own families yet. Some share there happiness , joy , there engagement news , baby stories , the “goss” and sadly some share there fear, sadness and worries. And we are there to listen no matter what and offer our advice wherever we can on the hope we have made them feel better by the time they leave the salon as well as giving them a lovely beauty treatment or 2. 😉

So why have I chose Dementia UK This year …?

Did you know ...

There are 850,000 people with Dementia In the UK with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. This will soar to 2 million by 2051.

Did you know …

225,000 will develop dementia this year, that's one every three minutes. 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 have dementia.

Don't worry …

I Didn't realise how common this condition was either. Its only as I have been talking to my clients I realised how common this condition is. Hearing different clients stories and own experiences with a loved one, made me think "This is more common than I thought" how many people know someone or know of someone.

Dementia affects people completely differently, Not only the persons suffering with this condition, but people having to watch there loved ones suffer with this.
These people need emotional support too.

When my clients have come in to the salon and open up to me to tell me how they are feeling because they are sadly going through the process of having to watch a loved one, in a world no one can understand. Its therapy, It helps people. If they can open up and talk, rather than bottle it up its helps them.

This is what inspired me to do something to give back and help towards our community.

How are we Helping?

If we could, We would love to just put a stop to all this, Unfortunately that isn't possible just yet.

So what we are doing is…

On Monday 4th December Abbie and Kayleigh are giving up there free time (unpaid) and will be visiting Broadland view based in Thorpe St Andrew in the Morning and White lodge based in Norwich City in the afternoon. We are offering these care homes - Mini manicures, Mini Pedicures , Hand Massages and Foot Massages , and of course a friendly face to give these people something nice for Christmas.
On Tuesday 5th December we will be holding our Christmas evening at the Salon, where we will be holding a raffle with donations from various companies etc, again all proceeds from this Will be be donated to Dementia UK.
