We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

Hello, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am riding the Prudential Ride London 100 for the fourth time this year and the charity I am raising funds for is Diabetes UK.

Why? - Two of my nieces, Elleanor and Pippa were both diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 7 and over the last 13 years I have seen how the condition impacts their daily lives.

The Facts - around 345,000 people are are living with Type 1 diabetes in the UK and the peak age for diagnosis is 9-14 years old but you can be diagnosed as a young child or adult.

It's an autoimmune condition for which there is currently no cure. For people with Type 1 Diabetes, injecting insulin (several times a day) or receiving insulin via a pump, is vital to survive.

UK Diabetes has 3 research goals:

    •    Care: Improve care and self-management for people living with diabetes today
    •    Cure: Find ways to cure diabetes in those who have it now or develop it in the future
    •    Prevent: Stop diabetes and its complications before they develop in those at risk

Please help to me to raise funds for Diabetes UK which will be used to help them achieve their three research goals.
