About Darren:
Darren Gentle was a beloved son, brother and uncle. He was a good friend to many. To me he was more than a friend for over 30 years, in fact he was like a kid brother.
Caring for his health by eating sensibly and working out at the gym were priorities for Darren, even the tattoo on his bicep read; "One more rep". He did his best to inspire others including me to be more healthy. It was therefore a sad irony that this healthy lifestyle was put paid to by a diagnosis of bladder cancer in May 2017.
Always a fighter Darren didn't give up or give in, he took the fight to cancer. Just when it looked like his bravery might be beating cancer, it spread into his lungs where it was much harder to stop. Almost two years to the day after his diagnosis, on 4th May 2019, Darren's fight ended when he passed away at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough. Darren was only 47 years old.
Darren's funeral takes place on Friday 17th May - 4.30pm at Peterborough Crematorium, Mowbray Rd, Peterborough PE6 7JE.
A Wake to celebrate Darren's life takes place from 5.30pm at the Charteris Centre, Normanton Road, Peterborough, PE1 4XE.
Darren's family, his partner Helen and his friends welcome everyone who knew Darren to attend and pay their last respects. Darren asked that instead of flowers people make a donation to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice where he was cared for in the final very difficult weeks of his life. All the staff at Thorpe Hall were amazing, offering the best care and facilities to make Darren as comfortable as possible, allowing him to pass away with dignity surrounded by his loved ones.
