Starkold are helping to raise money for
the Royal Marines Association because it is their role to maintain and promote esprit de corps and comradeship among all Royal Marines and their families, past and present.
The Royal Marines Association is established in branches all over the country and overseas to keep members in touch with one
another. They provide independent advice on where to go for medical, financial, welfare support and employment and also provide friendship and help to bereaved families and wounded Royal Marines.
To raise money for this excellent cause, Starkold take
part in Paris – Brest – Paris a 1200 km road cycling endurance event.
In just under a months’ time on Sunday 18th August at 20:45 hrs I will be starting the 2019 Paris – Brest – Paris a 1200 km road cycling endurance event. In order to qualify for this event, I have had to
undertake a series of qualifying rides in early 2019 riding no less than a
200km, 300km, 400km and a final 600km and only on successfully completing all of the qualifying rides allowing me then to take on the main 1200km event to be complete unsupported in 84 hours in August 2019.
The Paris-Brest- Paris is a long distance cycling event starting from the national Velodrome in Saint Quentin en Yvelines Paris out West to Brest and back again. It is one of the oldest cycling events that
still regularly run.
The ride which originally started as a race in 1891 which proved such a success has now turned into one of the most famous
rides in the world for the amateur rider. Further information on the history of the ride can be found on the link.
