Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Firefighter Darryl Roche and like many others in the world I have been affected by losing a close loved one to cancer.

St. John's hospice is an organisation that is very close to my family's heart. My grandmother who was very close to us all was cared for here by the fantastic nurse, doctors and volunteers who made the last part of her life comfortable and dignified.

I have taken it upon myself to cycle 2 hours a day. I started doing it on the date she died (9th June) to the date of her birthday (25th October). By the end of this I hope to have raised as much money as possible for St Johns hospice. I'm burning between 1000 and 1100 calories a day doing this and it equates to an average 35 miles a day. I am undertaking this at my local gym and also at my base fire station where I work.

She left behind my grandad who I think the world of. My determination to do this is mainly because of my closeness to him and also my nan when she was still with us.

So please, even if it's just £1 then please please please donate. St Johns hospice is associated with Macmillan and is a worthwhile cause. I'm doing this because I am still healthy and able, but one day myself or one of my friends or loved ones may need the assistance of Macmillan or St Johns hospice if health deteriorates in the future.

Thank you for taking time to read this. Your donation is very much appreciated by myself, my family and all the families who are going through tough times with loved ones with terminal illnesses.
