Story
On Thursday 27 February, I will be sleeping rough in order to emulate the day to day struggles of vulnerable people across the UK.
Homelessness affects everyone. It has no prejudice to your race, your mental health or your upbringing. Young people, elderly and working professionals alike all can be fall prey to its poison.
Homelessness is more than just sleeping on the streets. While this can be the most dangerous, and most visible, form of homelessness, it is just the tip of the iceberg. Homelessness means not having a place to call home a place that is private, secure, affordable and where you have a right to stay.
Shelter’s (Charity) analysis shows that in 2017 55% of families living in temporary accommodation were working. This represents over 33,000 families who were holding down a job despite having nowhere stable to live. A clear representation that the current housing and social benefit system is insufficient to support the needs of modern families.
Further recent figures suggest that around 86,000 young people in the UK will be homeless this year.
To be homeless is to be treated like a disease.
To be homeless is to be treated less than human.
To be homeless is to have your worth questioned.
Please donate and help me take a stand, by saying 'No More' to this social injustice. Even if only for a night!
Thank you
D
