DASLS Walk Event · 24 October 2009 ·
Dear Colleague,
Can I thank you all for your support for the Awareness Walk which took place this last week end. Despite the rain, the exceptionally water logged ground and the early starts, 7am, we walked the Dartmoor leg without a problem, arriving at Chagford 5 minutes before our target time.
We even met the Western Morning news photographer at New Bridge at an agreed rendezvous and had a live radio interview with David Fitzgerald on BBC Radio Devon from a windy Bel Tor Corner as he had featured our walk on his Saturday radio show.
Sunday across Exmoor saw us down to 3 in number and unfortunately after 13 miles, at a great speed, then down to 2 as one of our colleagues turned his ankle damaging a anterior collateral ligament, as I now learn the injury to be. That meant David Turner and I went into rescue mode and helped our injured colleague off the moor walking another 2.5 miles or so back the way the way we had come retracing our steps to get our colleague picked up. With only a few hours of daylight left and having to the retrace of our steps we had run out of time to finish the Exmoor leg as we had planned.
We will be going back to finish the last leg soon.
To everyone one that sponsored us thank you for your support. We raised a great deal of money for the Devon and Somerset Community Foundations and I hope raised awareness for the charities and DASLS.
