Story
Thank you for visiting our page. Here at DAS, a team were due to complete the Ride Across Britain cycling challenge to raise money for Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD). IUAD is an Alzheimer’s Society campaign that is uniting the industry, raising significant funds to transform dementia treatment and care. With the coronavirus hitting people living with dementia the hardest, there has never been a more critical time for this support. As the Ride Across Britain event has been postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus crisis, we have decided to complete a virtual challenge to provide some vital support to Alzheimer's Society during this most difficult of times for people affected by dementia. Throughout July, the team will see how many times we can cover the distance between Land's End and John O'Groats by collectively logging our mileage from all activities - we have walkers, cyclist, runners, rowers and golfers! Never before has the specialist support Alzheimer’s Society provides been more crucial. The 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK are some of the most vulnerable members of society, and coronavirus is currently having a devastating impact on them. Many have been cut off from their carers and support networks at a time when they most desperately need their support. This isolation is accelerating some people’s decline irreversibly. Without day to day contact, the effects of dementia will be greatly exacerbated and leave people even more vulnerable. Alzheimer's Society are continuing to face dementia head on. They have redeployed their 600 Dementia Advisers to provide support over the phone - these experts each help up to 10 people every day, giving emotional support, connecting people to local services such as priority food delivery, and escalating social care assessments where needed to ensure that people with dementia are getting the support they so desperately need. Thank you for taking the time to read our page. Please donate to this fantastic cause! I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
