Story

I am honoured to be a Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice Volunteer. I usually support the hospice volunteering and organising events such as the annual Cotswolds Ride which has sadly been postponed and Starlight Hike. As I won't be able to drive the signage van in June for the ride I have decided to come out of retirement to support the hospice Emergency Appeal and put on some running shoes instead.

I am not a runner and haven’t run for over thirty years. Having had family members sadly pass away at Leckhampton Court Hospice I know what an amazing job all the staff do and how important it is to support them through this difficult time so the hospice can help other families in our communities right across Gloucestershire.

I am 75 and planning to Run 7.5km after training for 7.5 weeks and running approximately 75 miles during the training program.

I am self Isolating at home so my training and 7.5km run will all take place at home on a treadmill which I appreciate I am fortunate to have, so I plan to make the most of it for a very worthy cause close to my heart.

My target is to raise £750 towards the Coronavirus Emergency Appeal.

The opportunity is certainly open to others to do something similar and take on the ‘Run Your Age’ Fun Challenge if you so wish, be that in your garden, up and down your stairs or during your hour of exercise a day outdoors. Please join in if you can and support.

Please wish me luck. I'm certainly going to need it. Should you be able to make a small contribution in the form of a donation I'd be extremely grateful. I know I speak on behalf of all the patients and families, staff, volunteers and the Virtual Fundraising Team from the Hospice when I say a huge THANK YOU from everyone at the Hospice, the House on the Hill Leckhampton Cheltenham for your support.

A donation of £21 today could pay for one extra hour of care, but I am asking you to give whatever you can afford at this difficult time. Every pound you give will make a difference.Take care, keep smiling and thank you once again for your support.
