It’s a well-known fact that poverty stems from lack of education. Literacy rates in sub-Saharan Africa are as low as 15% which means that education for many children is just not happening. The Book Bus gets children reading so they can climb onto the learning ladder and improve their chances in life

Story

On the 11th October 2014 Dave, Carol and Graham will be strapping themselves to a complete stranger and jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft.

This madness is for a very specific reason we want to raise as much money as we possibly can to support the Book Bus Foundation - reading isn’t just one of life’s great pleasures, it is an essential life skill; it improves literacy, develops a positive attitude towards learning and is crucial to the academic and social development of young people.

Despite the importance of literacy, large class sizes and lack of resources mean there are few reading opportunities for many children in developing countries such as Zambia, Malawi, India and Ecuador.

The Book Bus supports schools by providing mobile library facilities and volunteer story-tellers to help children become confident and literate readers for life and in Andrea’s name we will be supporting a very specific program in Ecuador a country she visited and loved.

Please help us by donating as much as you can and if you want a laugh come and see us on the 11th October at Skydive Northwest
