Nordoff and Robbins is the UK’s largest music therapy charity, with a unique approach shaped by more than 60 years of practice. Through the power of music, it breaks through the barriers caused by life-limiting illness, disability and social isolation. The charity does this through providing music therapy to people across the UK, whilst also training the music therapists of the future and funding research to measure and improve the impact of its work.

Story

LESS THAN A MONTH to go till the big Mexico ride!

(October '15) I'm having a bit of a nightmare with a 'grinding' back disc at the moment so training has taken a real 'hit' just recently. I'm more bothered about getting out of saddle habit - because that pain is one of the worst on a long ride!!

I'll keep you updated but physio bills are a bugger for sure!!

(Aug '15) Training is in full swing so thought you’d all like a little update of my journey so far.See some sweaty images of me on my trusty bike in the gallery below & a brand new bike too! It’s been a hard slog so far fitting in training and work.  I’ve been cheating slightly by doing Spin classes at the gym. Not for the faint hearted, let me tell you! It’s not all full of women with Croydon face-lifts either. There’s them and me- usually in a previous Truants Charity shirt.

I’ve also joined the Heavy Metal Cycling Club on Sundays, doing little routes taking us out of the city and only stopping for one pint during, with more at the end. This whole Mexico ride needs some serious alcohol training as well!

Those of you who know the Truants can attest to that! TROOPER ensures I still have to breathe in when I take a photo in lycra!

As always, I did the Heavy Metal Truants Ride to the Download Festival, Castle Donington as us oldies know it!. Obviously not as picturesque (or hot!) as Mexico, but plenty of hills and wind to put the leg muscles through their paces.3 days, 168 miles, 50 rockers, more beer than you can imagine and some questionable facial hair.See more info at : http://heavymetaltruants.com/

Instead of bothering you all twice a year for donations, I’ve decided to be nice and save them all up for the big ride. But please start now and get those magic numbers creeping upwards. It’s for the children & 2M is in sight!!

Both Truants and Heavy Metal Truants equally support three Children’s Charities for all our current activities  - Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, Childline/NSPCC and Teenage Cancer Trust. Please follow the links below and read on their websites about all the fantastic work they all do in their different ways.

Your help and donations are greatly appreciated!

Our next Truants Ride is in November 2015 to the Yukatan Peninsula, Mexico, 130 miles in 48 hours. We are attempting this  in order to raise, hopefully with your assistance, much needed funds for three Children's Charities -Teenage Cancer Trust, ChildLine and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy. In still difficult economic times such as now Charities tend to suffer greatly so it’s even more important that we help as much as we can. As is the case with all our Truants I will be paying all costs related to the ride personally so every penny donated goes to the Charities. Nordoff Robbins collect and account all donations before sharing equally with the other two charities.
