I knew nothing about Diabetes until I met my trouble and strife in 2004,she never told me much about it and my first recollection was her having a blood glucose level of 31!Little did I know at the time she was using her insulin to control her weight. Fast forward 15years and thankfully that is now a distance memory with no lasting consequences. I have supported and been their through the hypos, two pregnancies and everything else in between. 

We are a now a family of 4, Sian has had T1 for 31yrs now with predominantly good control except for her "uni years". She now works as a Diabetes Specialist Nurse in the community and is of the motto to never allow diabetes to control you but you to control it! Diabetes then came and hit us again with my niece being diagnosed at age 9 and trying to support her through her diagnosis. 

In 1987 Sian was told don't worry by the time your 21 we'll have a cure! 31yrs later we are still waiting, however the advances in technology, insulin and finger pricking devices have come along ten fold, all down to Diabetes UK continued research aided by fundraising. 

I have never ran a marathon and only started my journey 1 year ago when I completed a 10K. Training has been tough but nothing compared to how Type 1 challenges you every single day.
