OVAID Borneo Fundraising Tour · 12 October 2018 to 18 October 2018 ·

Working to save entire, intact, functioning ecosystems for all wildlife and humanity. The original mission was expanded to include actions to protect Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants and indigenous communities who fall outside the protective umbrella of our orangutan conservation initiatives.

Story

Our names are Dave and Chrissy and we are raising funds for OVAID (Orangutan Veterinary AID) to purchase vital veterinary equipment and supplies, and to support further training of Indonesian Vets. The Orangutan Project (TOP), is a not-for-profit Australian organisation whose mission is to save the Bornean and Sumatran orangutan species from extinction by conserving the rainforest and reintroducing displaced orangutans into the wild. We are delighted that we will have the rare opportunity to visit central Borneo in October, where we shall see for ourselves the amazing work being done by TOP and its partners.
As a condition of going on this trip, we are required to make a donation of £850 each, separate from the cost of travel, to The Orangutan Project. All the money raised on this site will go directly to TOP. For more information about this excellent organisation, please visit www.orangutan.org.au

A shocking BBC2 documentary (Red Ape: Saving the Orangutan) aired on 10th May showed the massive destruction of the rain forest that is taking place all over Borneo so that huge areas can then be planted for palm oil production. Without trees, the orangutan has nowhere to go and is now critically endangered.
