The International Rescue Corps is an independent UN registered disaster rescue service. Formed in 1981 in the aftermath of the Italian earthquake, and has since undertaken numerous missions at home and across the world. All the IRC's services are provided free of charge, our aim is purely to save life.

Hello!

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and please dig deep to sponsor me! I'm aiming to add another £300 to the ever growning pot to take me to £3200 since this page started...

This year was suppose to be the big push for the London Marathon but first my glass back then my fractured ankle has put paid to that dream. I've been swimming for rehab and desperately wanted a new challenge and to raise some money, especially having just watched the disasters unfolding in Haiti, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia and then Japan.

Swimathon

On the Friday of marathon weekend the Leeds leg of Swimathon is taking place so I've decided to pour my frustration into the pool and swim the 5k, a marathon in itself and further than I've ever swam before! It'll be a tough challenge but it's not a challenge if it's easy!

Internation Rescue Corps

As always I'm collecting for the International Rescue Corps. They attend natural and man made disasters operating as a "first phase rescue team specifically in casualty location" - search and rescue.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: International Rescue Corps will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Training

Things were going so well last year...following marathon PBs in Rotterdam and Chester last year, I went out to Korea for the World Firefighter Games hoping to bring home marathon gold. Annoyingly the race was cancelled just a couple of hours before the start but I managed to grab the age category bronze in the half instead.

I returned to the UK flying and quickly registered for Mablethorpe to make the most of my training. It was a PB again but not the one I was after...two pieces of bad luck, a twisted back just 2 days before and then horrendous gale force weather slowed me down. More bad luck was to follow with the back problem going from bad to worse and then just as I started to recover I went and fractured my ankle!

The London dream has gone as has my first Yorkshire Three Peaks race but Swimathon 5k will have to do instead!

Hard Times

Everyone's hard up at the moment but everyone can skip a pint, a coffee or a chocolate bar and chuck me a couple of quid instead for a good cause! Pennies make pounds, so whatever you can spare!

Many thanks, as always, for your support!

Dave
