Story

Back in the olden days, aka 1979, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. 40 years later, our daughter Martha was diagnosed too.

In 1979 the cure was 10 years away. And the running joke is that that's always the case and always will be. But I honestly believe that's now changing. With the work of fantastic scientists, funded by JDRF, incredible developments are being made both in the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes and the possibility of a cure in the not too distant future.

Type 1 Diabetes is strange condition. Living with it is a continuous 24/7 job that requires constant thinking about everything that gets eaten, drunk or any activity undertaken; that includes simple stuff like nipping out for a quick walk or doing the housework. Paired with that is continually adjusting insulin or food to allow everything to happen. Because me, Martha and the rest of the family do this continually and with so little fuss it's almost invisible to others how much of our daily life is spent trying to do this successfully; and it's blooming hard work! Staying alive every day when your body is actively trying to kill you is as much fun as it sounds.

Any money you donate will go towards helping to take away the physical and mental burden of Type 1 Diabetes. Me and Martha appreciate every penny you can give.

I'll keep this page updated with my training. And trust me, I'm a long way from being able to do it now!
